How does LISA grade students' work?

A UNIQUE RUBRIC

We've worked with English teachers across New Zealand and overseas to develop a unique rubric that aligns with various state and national writing rubrics.  In New Zealand it aligns with AsTTle, PAT, PaCT and the CAA / unit standard.  In Australia it aligns with NAPLAN and the Australian Curriculum.  And in the USA, LISA aligns with the Common Core State standards.

USING AI

For each student we send the question, resource and student answer to a commercial AI, such as Open AI's Chat GPT, and then it hundreds of specific prompts to assess the student's work against each of the conventions and sub-conventions.  We then convert the responses into a year-based grade and other feedback that will help the teacher.

GIVING FEEDBACK

This is shared with the teacher via the "Teacher's Corner", including graphical analysis of students' writing ability.  in designing this feedback, our focus has been to keep it simple.  We know that teachers are (very) busy people and don't want to spend hours trying to 'slice and dice' student achievement data.  We do it for you and keep it simple.
